Colonial life differs from our lives today. What are some of these differences in relation to chores, jobs, schooling, games, etc.?
After reading the picture book,Sarah Morton's Day, my class discovered that life for the colonial children was very difficult. Not only did it take them awhile to dress in the many layers of clothing they wore daily, but they also had to wake at the break of dawn to do chores. Play was not acceptable in the earliest days of the colonial period. We are fortunate to have schooling that allows us to interact and think critically about our learning. The colonial children were expected to memorize and recite lengthy verses from their bibles. Working in the fields, cooking, and cleaning were also expected to be done by the children, as well as the adults. I have tried to make self connections with Sarah Morton and Kit, yet find it challenging because we live in a world today that allows us to make choices about how we spend our time, and the work we complete is meaningful to our lives.

They had to work together to get the chores done. They had no toys at all because they thought it was wrong to have toys.

she is use to around water.
most of the things that are different are that we don't have to do chores as hard as they did and most of us now don't even have to do chores today.
the difference between schooling today is back then for school they had to recite bible verses.
My life is nothing like hers.
peaple are diffrent then other peaple so that dosent mean you should make fun of them
Some things that were different from Kit's old home was that they did not have to do as hard chores and most of us do not have to do chores.

haley says that we did not have all the things they said or did . and we don't have to do any thing like there chores
she is used to warm water, but we are used to cold water. and i don't have any chores, but i still get an allowance. she had tons of chores , and she didn't get allowance.
I think my life is different than peoples life back then is that we don't have to do the same chores they did.

We don't have to wake up really early in the morning to do chores.

We dont have to work in the yard all day like back then.
We dont have to sail on ships like during colonial times. We dont have to sit at desks like back then.
The jobs have changed so we dont have to work as blacksmiths, ship captains,ect.
We have a much bigger variaty of games in this present time. For example, back then , they only had card playing, hopscotch, ect. Today, we have kickball, football, soccer, hocky, baseball, ect.
Today we have tv and more choices of books than back then.
Back then they had to do chores before school rather than after school. Also it was harder to hunt for food because there was no supermarkets.
Kit has severel chores in which she has to wake up early to be able to acoplish which I don't have to do.But I still have chores to do.

I think they had many more chores and jobs than we do today because they had to make almost everything from scratch.
The chores that they had to do were much harder than the ones we do and they took much longer.
It was different cause ever since you were 5 years of age then you would do chores and people always had to work and hard.People had to Work to help each one of the colonies and thats how they are so very diffrent.#1
They didn't have any stores to buy food, clothes. They had to harvest their food, and make their clothes out of wool.
i think that she had to do tons of chores because today some of us dont do any chores.
the jobs have proibally changed alot like they had much poorer jobs back then. and the games have changed a little like they still probally had hopscoch and tag.and the chore they had to do them more often like before school and after. and the scholls were much more strict.
Well, in the beginning of the book, people were surprised she could swim and read, while today, you do that before you are about 7. Plus I know as a fact that there chores where much harder than ours today. I don't even have any chores!
Life is different today because we have more technology, such as computers, phones, and cars. Also, women work more now and not just the men.
We have electricity and we have internet. Our teachers don't whip us anymore. Some of our toys are electric.
